Knutty4Knitting

Musings on machine knitting, the art of knitting, and the mechanics of knitting. Maybe once in awhile I'll talk about my kids, but I'll warn you first, so that you can skip that part.

Tying Up Some Lose Ends

I was reading some of my older entries (it doesn't matter that because I write so infrequently, they are ALL OLD!) and realized that if I were a reader, I would probably want to know what happened or want to know how things turned out regarding some of the situations I'ved talked about. So, here goes:

1. My daughter does NOT have lupus. Remember, she went to a physician here at USC and he told her she had lupus. When I did my research, I read that you need several symptoms before they can diagnose you as having lupus. She only had one. I was upset, she was upset, everyone was upset. One of her roommates in New York had his mom set up an appointment with one of the best lupus experts in the country. Although we couldn't pay his high rates, he agreed to see her and test her for whatever the insurance company billed. And when he got the results--both from the original physician and from the tests he himself took--he was very very angry with the original physician and told my daughter that she should never have been diagnosed with lupus. So we were happy. In the meantime, back in Los Angeles, I had pulled some connections of my own and begged for an appointment with the best rheumatologist here at USC, who happens to be the boss of the original physician. When he looked over her files, including her original tests and the tests from the doctor in NY, he just shook his head and said, K, I really wish you had seen me first. Well, he says that now, but I DID try to get an appointment with him first, but he was booked and his junior associate was the only one available! He said that with a disease like lupus, you cannot diagnose from one or two symptoms. You have to look at the whole picture. He also said that the physician must be very careful in writing his findings, because one wrong phrase, and the patient could be forever labelled as having a "preexisting condition" and therefore, uninsurable. I thank God that we did look for another opinion because we felt in our hearts that the original diagnosis was totally wrong. I give credit to my daughter for being strong and not accepting what she felt was a wrong review on the part of the original doctor.

2. My Brown Suit. I can't find it anymore. All I had to do was add a hem or a trim to the bottom of my camisole. I think it must have ended up in a box of clothes when I moved in October.

3. My Diet. I have pretty much kept off the weight I lost, with the exception of 2 pounds up and down. I am on Weight Watchers now, because I want to lose weight before my birthday in March.

4. My Pink Suit that I was going to knit for my niece's wedding in October. Yeah right. Never even got close.

5. My Calendar Photo. The photo they chose was a close up and I love it. It was different from the other photos they took. I am not sure if I can post it, but if it is okay, and if I have access to the slides, then I will put it up. I've raised almost $1000 for weSPARK with this calendar.

6. My Son Now Thinks He is a Driver. Just because he has a driver's license. I keep telling him, good drivers are born, not made. But he doesn't believe me.

7. My Love Life. Pretty nonexistent. I am not seeing or talking to Robert anymore because I want to free some space in my life for someone who truly deserves and appreciates me. He certainly doesn't. I do have a crush on two guys right now, but I'm trying to figure out if one of them is married, and the other one is kind of young and I know he wants babies, which I can't do anymore.

8. Graduate School. I am in the process of applying. The deadline is on Monday, and I have yet to take the GRE. I'll get around to it one of these days! Wish me luck!

Have a great rest of the week and an even more wonderful long weekend! Ta-ta!
